Lin Osborn, President and founder of Health Plan Navigator, turned an avocation into a successful patient advocacy group in 1998. That was the year Choices in Healthcare was founded in order to assist people who were having trouble with their managed care plans. In the fall of 2001, having outgrown the original Choices form, Ms. Osborn founded Health Plan Navigator.
Having worked as a hospice worker at the American Cancer Society, Oxford Health Plan, and the Department for Aging, Lin was always advocating to get the best possible care for the patient. "No one can predict when they will get sick. For insurance companies to abuse people with an overload of rules and regulation when they are at their most vulnerable is a terrible burden. I created Health Plan Navigator to take the worry about paperwork out of the equation. Making it possible for someone to concentrate on their illness and spend time with their family rather than becoming mired in red tape is extremely satisfying."
Lin graduated Cum Laude from Michigan State University and has a Masters in Health Advocacy from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York. She contributes to the "Community Viewpoint" column in the Westchester Journal News, speaks at public forums on heath insurance and is a contributor to the 2001 Castle Connolly guide to The Best Senior Living & Eldercare Options chapter on long-term health care.
